Mycotoxins are toxic fungal metabolites that can primary occur in contaminated food commodities. On the other side we can not exclude the risk of mycotoxins misuse for bioterrorist purposes. The ability of timely detection and identification of mycotoxins is one of the main tasks in protection activities. Several commercial methods for mycotoxins assays such as HPLC and/or ELISA were described. Nevertheless a sensitive method, using a simple, portable, and low cost device, has been still missing. Biosensors seem to be convenient methods for mycotoxin assay that fulfill noticed expectancies. In this article the existing biosensors such as fluorometric arrays or SPR biosensors likewise the promising ones such as electrochemical and piezoelectric based biosensors are described.
