To provide a higher level of health care for career soldiers there were particular changes even in the area of primary prevention. Since 2000 an extended preventive examination will be performed on all career soldiers. This examination will contain in addition an extended anthropometrical examination, the evaluation of functional fitness through a step-test and a psychological examination by means of a questionnaire. AN EXTENDED PREVENTIVE CARE - LIPID METABOLISM DISORDERS

Within the programme of extended preventive care the monitoring of selected bíochemical markers which evaluate the extent of the risk of damage to health in a selected population of career soldiers was performed during 1999. The authors evaluated the lipid profile and analyzed lipid metabolism dísorders in a population of career soldiers. The authors proved in their study that there is a high incidence of hyperlipoproteinemia among career soldiers in the Czech Army.

Within the programme of extended primary prevention the Czech Army Medical Service organized and performed an extensive examination focused on evaluation of the incidence of selected risk factors in career soldiers. Monitoring was focused on the evaluation of case history data related to the risk of inception of noninfectious diseases of mass incidence, and on selected biochemical and anthropometrical characteristics of the topical state of health. AN EXTENDED PREVENTIVE CARE - SELECTED RESULTS OF THE PROGRAMME OF EXTENDED PREVENTIVE CARE IN THE CZECH ARMY

Within the programme of extended preventive care in the Czech Army 6658 career soldiers have been examined. 30.5% of them have a low family case history, two thirds have a medium one and 3% have a high family case history in the area of noninfectious diseases of mass incidence. 65% are non-smokers, 20% smoke more than 10 cigarettes per day. More than half the people state that they have an office job. Below average values of physical fitness were measured in 10% of examined persons. High numbers of newly diagnosed civilization risk factors - obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and also the incidence of hyperuricaemia, chlamydia infections, Helicobacter pyroli, diabetes mellitus and smoking confirm the sense of these preventive examinations. These findings and diseases were the reason for the immediate launching of an educational and motivation programme with the aim of eliminating the effect of these civilization risk factors in future months and years in each officer in dispensary care. The results will be evaluated regularly at yearly intervals.

Toxins, chemical substances produced by practically all forms of life, represent a chemically broad group of compounds. Many of them are very toxic for humans and represent a serious jeopardy because they may be misused through chemical warfare or terrorist attacks.
