MISSION IN ALBANIA

Práce podává stručný přehled o vzniku, úloze a struktuře Západoevropské unie (Western European Union - WEU) a o jejich nedávných mírových vojenských operacích včetně mise v Albánii. Autor uvádí své vlastní zkušenosti z působení v této misi v období od 20. srpna 1999 do 15. března 2000, kdy pracoval jako vedoucí lékař zdravotnického týmu pro WEU-MAPE (Multinational Advisory Police Element) v Tiraně. Práci autor doplnil o charakteristiku tehdejší společensko-ekonomické situace v Albánii.

The study gives a detailed overview of the establishment, role and structure of the Western European Union (WEU) and its recent peace-keeping military operations, including mission in Albania. The author states his own experience from his participation in this mission in the period from August 20, 1999 to March 15, 2000 when he worked as head physician of the health team for the WEU-MAPE (Multinational Advisory Police Element) in Tirana. He added characteristic features of that time social and economic situation in Albania to his work.
