A CONTRIBUTION TO THE DRUG PROBLEM IN THE CZECH ARMY
Stanislav Pelcák, Alena Vosečková
VZL 2000, 69(6):245-249
The aim of this article is to provide particular information on the views of secondary school applicants to the Purkyně Military Medical Academy in Hradec Králové concerning the drug problem. The interdisciplinary preventive programme is a very important part of the social pathology prevention programme at the Military Medical Academy. The survey served only for content diversification of the programme and methods of team work according to the topical needs and problems of the students. It means in particular to take into consideration a high degree of acquaintance of students with the drug problem and to provide a greater space for the development...
SIDE-EFFECTS OF TRANSFUSIONS - POST-TRANSFUSION REACTIONS AND COMPLICATIONS
Miloš Bohoněk
VZL 2000, 69(6):250-255
A blood transfusion must be considered a risk operation. The extent of the risk can be minimalized but it is not possible to eliminate it absolutely. This is due to the specificity of the blood product. These products are biological products which when maintaining their treatment effect cannot be modified by the production processes in such a way that the known risks are completely eliminated. From the long-term legal point of view the most serious are post-transfusion infections, mainly of viral origin. The worst acute post-transfusion reaction is a haemolytic reaction. Pyretic reaction, allergic reaction, post-transfusion purpura, GvHD reaction,...
IMMUNOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF COMPLEX HOST-TICK-MICROORGANISM INTERACTION

VZL 2000, 69(6):256-262
The process of microorganism transmission during host-vector-microorganism interactions is extremely complex. The saliva and haemolymph components that are able to modulate innate and acquired defence mechanisms participate in these interactions from the standpoint of the vector. In the case of immune response, modulation of both the humoral and cellular defence mechanisms are targeted due to a shift in the Th1 and Th2 immunoregulatory pathway balance. The components of the complement system, the antibodies and the cells of interaction induced inflammation participate in these complex interactions from the standpoint of the host. Changes in the defence...
RADIATION INDUCED CELL SIGNAL MECHANISMS
Jiří Stulík, Jan Österreicher, Walter Kaffenberger, Aleš Macela
VZL 2000, 69(6):263-266
This study introduces briefly basic molecular mechanisms which are seen in biological systems after irradiation. It presents molecular mechanisms responsible for the transmission of a signal into a cell which is caused by ionizing irradiation. The problem of DNA reaction after exposures to ionizing radiation and the role of p53 in this process are also explained. Further, the study provides an overview of the most important molecules acting during apoptosis activation.
HUMAN HAEMATOLOGIC TUMOROUS CELL LINES AND THEIR SENSITIVITY TO THE EFFECTS OF IONIZING RADIATION
Jiřina Vávrová, Martina Mareková, Doris Vokurková
VZL 2000, 69(6):267-276
The study compares the radiosensitivity of some haematopoietic tumorous cell lines. It proves that the cells of TP-53 negative leukemic line HL-60 are imprisoned before the entrance into apoptosis in the G2 phase of the cellular cycle after doses of ionizing radiation up to 10 Gy. Massive apoptosis appears after a dose of 10 Gy as late as 48 hours after irradiation.
AN EVALUATION OF CZECH AIR FORCE AIRPLANE COLLISIONS WITH BIRDS ON THE TERRITORY OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC FROM 1993 TO 1999
Radoslav Krupka
VZL 2000, 69(6):277-281
This article is based on data obtained concerning cases of collisions between birds and Czech Army airplanes and helicopters which occurred on the territory of the Czech Republic from January 1, 1993 to July 22, 1999. This means from the time when the Czech Army came into existence till the end of this study. A total of 165 collision cases were evaluated.

MILITARY PHARMACY IN THE AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN MONARCHY AND ITS DEVELOPMENT AFTER THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A PROFESSIONAL MILITARY PHARMACY IN 1794 - PART I
Karel Král, Barbora Bastlová
VZL 2000, 69(6):291-296
Until 1794 pharmaceutical support of the army was solved with the help of civilian pharmacists. As a result of an often lower quality of provided services, a professional military pharmacy - Military Medication Régie - came into existence in 1794. In accordance with medical support needs of the army, garrison hospital pharmacies and garrison pharmacies were built. Military pharmacists - clerks of Military Medication Régie - had their own ranks and were assigned to military pharmacies according to the need. A military pharmaceutical distribution system and a military pharmacopoeia were created and in the case of war a system of field pharmacies and...
