Possible Impacts on Microclimate Inside a Transport Isolator and the Use of Closed Air Circulation in the Transport Isolator

Radek Bárta, Peter Bednarčík

VZL 2010, 79(4):134-138

A transport isolator is designed for isolation and transport of patients with highly virulent infection. Both safety of accompanying team and complete isolation of the infected patient from environment have to be ensured within transportation. A prerequisite of the safety transport consists of a reliable transport isolator which is capable to meet safety requirements and to support basic physiological functions within transportation. Currently, the transport boxes with the open system using HEPA filters have been developed. This system works on the basis of air flow rate at about 120 l/min. However, the HEPA filter is unable to filter excessive amount...

Acute Diarrheal Diseases - Renewed Issue

Miroslav Fajfr, Věra Neubauerová, Jana Fajfrová

VZL 2010, 79(4):139-145

Infectious diarrhea is counted among frequent complications in field training of units or their deployment in foreign missions. Acute diarrheal diseases ethiology varies and involves both classic bacterial pathogens and viral and parasitic agents. Last but not least, an infectious diarrhea picture may be developed even by bacterial producers so called enterotoxins. In this overview article, the most frequent agents of acute diarrheal diseases are ivnvolved, above all in the relation of the units deployed in combat operations. In the part devoted to viral agents, a brief comment is given on new viruses which are put into a casuality relationship with...

Change of Body Bioimpedance in Dependence on Physical Activity

Jan Hlúbik, Pavol Hlúbik

VZL 2010, 79(4):146-150

Measurement and assessment of physical bioimpedance is one of important, technically demanding and simultaneously simple non-invasive methods for clinics, which is suitable for monitoring of body composition changes: fat mass, FFM and TBW. The goal of this work is to find out what effects has a physical activity on the human body composition obtained from InBody 720 a Tanita MC-180 MA. Results discovered by monitoring lead to the conclusion that a short-time physical load does not significantly influence blood return of individual tissues and thereby no important changes of impedance and body composition are observed. Neither statistically important...

Beta-Amino Acids and Their Natural Biologically Active Derivatives. IV. Derivatives of Unusual Acyclic Beta-Amino Acids

Jiří Patočka

VZL 2010, 79(4):151-156

Beta-amino acids are currently of growing interest, not only because of their natural roles, but also for its use in peptide synthesis. Except of natural α-amino acid β-analogues, a variety of unusual aliphatic β-amino acids are known. They differ in respect to their chain length and possess, in some cases, additional methyl groups, different functional groups or a double or triple bond. Unusual acyclic β-amino acids, although less abundant than their α-analogues, are also present in more complex structures like peptides and depsipeptides, and many of them show interesting pharmacological effects that are often crucially based...

Haiti: Post-Earthquake Assistance, Principles of Triage in Extreme Situations

Stanislav Konštacký

VZL 2010, 79(4):157-159

The author gives a survey on work of the Israeli Army Field Hospital in providing international health support in Haiti after the catastrophic earthquake in January 2010. He points out some ethic problems of doctors' decision during the triage of casualties in areas affected by the disaster, which other doctors will face while providing healthcare in extreme situations which will be markedly different from those provided in peace time.

The ACR Military Medical Service Officers' Views on Pre-Deployment Training and Deployment in Foreign Operations

Milan Růžička, Peter Pudík

VZL 2010, 79(4):160-162

In recent years, the ACR Military Medical Service personnel have been actively participated in medical support of units operating in foreign missions. The medical support has been provided at different levels, from the battalion aid station, the field surgical teams upto the field hospital level. The Military Medical Service officers underwent pre-deployment training, they participated in organization and arrangement of medical unit, they provided health care in the area of operations in different positions of the medical support system.

Current State and Problems of ACR Non-Healthcare Personnel Training in Providing First Aid and Emergency Care in the Field Conditions

Martin Žák, Radovan Matoušek

VZL 2010, 79(4):163-166

In case of injury for life-saving, it is important for all ACR soldiers to be trained in providing first aid. In addition to that, selected individuals should be trained in providing advanced first aid in the field conditions (so called Combat Life Saver, CLS). The aim of this article is to give information on teaching this issue in courses organized by the Department of General and Emergency Medicine, Faculty of Military Health Sciences, University of Defence in Hradec Králové. The next purpose is to describe currently occured problems. The main concern now is to unify the content and teaching quality in CLS courses organized at different workplaces...

Application of the Student Centered Approach in Health Psychology Teaching

Alena Vosečková, Zdeněk Hrstka

VZL 2010, 79(4):167-172

Application of the Person Centered Approach (PCA) in Health Psychology teaching extends the classic biomedical model with a psychological view of health and disease (a bio-psycho-social model). It concerns not only the extension of view with the psychological level but also with the way of thinking and practical application. The form of Health Psychology teaching at our department is not a general model, it is a real possibility when the space for new experience, which is necessary in self-acceptance and total change of life style, is created. Participation in selfeducational training in help-profession workers (including doctors and nurses) is considered...
